Eligible singles skaters in the United States are divided by the USFSA into the following levels: pre-preliminary, preliminary, prejuvenile, juvenile, intermediate, novice, junior, and senior.

The skills they needFigure skaters need to be able to glide, spin, turn, jump, hop, skip, and stop. They also need to develop agility, balance, coordination, flexibility, and the speed that comes from the explosive quickness of muscles.

Ice skating is a sport you can learn at almost any age. It gives you a good aerobic workout and can improve your balance and coordination. Over time, you'll also strengthen your leg muscles, improve your joint flexibility, and have more endurance. Health benefits aside, ice skating is fun.

Whether you want to learn to figure skate, are getting your kids into the sport or want to develop your skills as a family, the only way to get started is to head to your local rink. Many skating facilities rent skates and safety equipment and offer lessons for kids, adults and families.

So how long does it really take to learn to skate on ice? It takes 8 12 hours of lessons to understand the basics of skating on ice. This is over the course of 2 3 months, for an hour once a week. Two-three times a week will advance your progress faster.

The focus and goal of the Learn to Skate (L2S) curriculums are designed to teach beginner hockey players the fundamentals of skating. Every association will have different needs, access to ice, a large variation in ages (4-10 years old) and number of players in their L2S sessions.

Before you can become a figure skater, you need to learn how to ice skate. With over 1,000 programs nationwide, Learn to Skate USA offers beginner skating lessons to skaters of all ages and abilities by way of a trusted, standardized curriculum endorsed by U.S. Figure Skating, USA Hockey and US Speedskating.

After completing your Learn to Skate USA classes, join aspeed skating club and begin to learn how to go even faster. Most clubs hold weekly practice sessions with a certified speed skating coach and will play host to fun social events, camps and races.

Sit on ice and stand up. March forward across the ice. Forward two-foot glide. Dip. Forward swizzles 6 8 in a row. Backward wiggles 6 8 in a row. Beginning snowplow stop on two feet or one foot. Bonus skill: Two-foot hop in place.
