A-1. The A-1 visa is for foreign officials representing another country who will conduct official business on behalf of that country in the United States, including heads of state, ministers, cabinet members, delegates from the European Union and African Union, ambassadors, and consuls.

Ambassadors, Diplomats, Public Ministers and other Diplomatic Personnel can apply for an A-visa if they are traveling to the United States on behalf of their government with an intended official purpose. The purpose for which the applicant is traveling should be government-natured.

An L-1A is a non-immigrant work visa that “enables a U.S. employer to transfer an executive or manager from one of its affiliated foreign offices to one of its offices in the United States.

To qualify for an L1A visa, you must be employed as either a senior manager or an executive and have worked for the non-US subsidiary, parent, affiliate or branch office of the US company for at least 12 months out of the three years immediately preceding the application.

The L-1A visa is for intracompany transferees who work in managerial or executive positions in a company that is located outside the United States. The L-1B visa is for intracompany transferees who work in positions requiring specialized knowledge.
