Contact support

In Iowa, child support is determined based on both parents' net income as well as the number of children involved. Net income refers to your take home pay or how much money you make after taxes, health insurance, etc. are subtracted.

There is a special rule in the case of divorced & separated (including never married) parents. When the non-custodial parent is claiming the child as a dependent/exemption/tuition credit; the custodial parent is still allowed to claim the same child for Earned Income Credit and Head of Household filing status..

If child support is owed to more than one family, the payment is divided among the families. ... If the payee along with any child on the case ever (past or current) received cash assistance (such as FIP, TANF, ADC benefits) in Iowa or another state the fee is waived.

You need to figure out the portion of the combined income of both parents that is from the noncustodial parent. Multiply the Schedule amount by the noncustodial parent's share of the total parental income. The resulting amount is the basic child support obligation.

The law says if people fall far enough behind in paying child support, the Child Support Recovery Unit (CSRU) can "sanction" drivers' licenses. This means they can suspend, revoke, not issue, or not renew the license if a parent is delinquent in child support payments.

To terminate child support in Iowa, the noncustodial parent must submit a "Motion to Terminate the Income Withholding Order." The noncustodial parent will receive a hearing date from the Iowa court and must personally serve the motion on the custodial parent through a process server or sheriff.

In Iowa, both parents have a duty to support their child (or children). Although a court could order either parent to pay child support, generally the noncustodial parent makes payments.

Unlike Nebraska and South Dakota, the State of Iowa is one of approximately seventeen states where a Court can order divorcing parents to pay part or all of the child's college tuition and fees. This can be done one of two ways in the State of Iowa.

In determining a parent's income for child support purposes, courts typically look at the parent's gross income from all sources. They then subtract certain obligatory deductions, like income taxes, Social Security, health care, and mandatory union dues.

If a student's parents are divorced, both the custodial parent and the noncustodial parent are eligible to borrow from the Parent PLUS loan program, provided that the combined loan amounts do not exceed the cost-of-attendance minus other aid received.
