About Us. Gadsden State is a public, open door, comprehensive community college that is comprised of five campuses or educational centers in Calhoun, Cherokee and Etowah counties.

The Gadsden State acceptance rate is 100%. Popular majors include Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician, Liberal Arts and Humanities, and Nursing. Graduating 28% of students, Gadsden State alumni go on to earn a starting salary of $21,200.

In October 1997, the school – now known as the Valley Street Campus – was designated as a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) by the U.S. Department of Education. The following year, the U.S. Department of Education's Title III Program began on the Valley Street Campus.

The total enrollment at Gadsden State Community College in 2021, both undergraduate and graduate, is 8,616 students. The full-time enrollment at Gadsden State Community College is 3,708 and the part-time enrollment is 4,908.

In 1962, the state of Alabama assumed ownership of the school, and in 1972, it was renamed Gadsden State Technical Institute. The U.S. Department of Education designated this institution as a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) in 1997.
