If a child is traveling as an unaccompanied minor, they don't need identification, but the adult taking the child to the airport needs to show an ID. However, if the child does have an identification card or passport, it is wise to bring it.

The TSA Minor Travel Consent form is required for any minor (under the age of 18) who will be traveling without their legal guardian or parent. This consent is necessary to ensure that airport security and airline personnel are aware of the parent or legal guardian's approval for the minor to travel.

Children. TSA does not require children under 18 to provide identification when traveling within the United States.

Who can fly alone? Most U.S. airlines will permit children who have reached their fifth birthday to travel unaccompanied. Kids ages 5 through 11 who are flying alone must usually travel pursuant to special “unaccompanied minor” procedures.
