Work-integrated learning is a form of curricular experiential education that formally integrates a student's academic studies with quality experiences within a workplace or practice setting. WIL experiences include an engaged partnership of at least: an academic institution, a host organization, and a student.

They are Applied Research, Apprenticeship, Co-operative Education, Entrepreneurship, Field Placement, Internships, Professional Practice (practicum and clinical), Service Learning, and Work Experience: Applied Research Project. This type of WIL is when students participate in research at job sites and workplaces.

“Work-integrated learning (WIL) is an umbrella term for any purposefully-designed learning programme that integrates theoretical knowledge with authentic practice in the workplace. The purpose of WIL is to develop competence, i.e. the ability to apply knowledge and skills to the demands of real life.

Students spend up to 450 hours on the job (full-time or part-time) with a qualified supervisor from your organisation. Placements may be paid or unpaid, depending on circumstances, and students may receive academic credit for their work.

Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is an opportunity for you to gain experience in your chosen career by completing an internship or project that contributes to your degree*. When you successfully complete a WIL placement course, it is counted towards your degree.
