Tangible Personal Property Tax Process The Broward County Property Appraiser's Office assesses the value of tangible personal property and presents a certified tax roll to Broward County Records, Taxes and Treasury Division.

The nonrecurring intangible tax rate is 2 mills. The tax is calculated by multiplying the amount of the obligation secured by Florida real property by 0.002.

In lieu of an ad valorem tax, the state levies an annual vehicle license tax based upon the vehicle's net weight. Personal property less than or equal to $25,000 is exempt. Household goods, personal effects, and agricultural crops are exempt.

Tangible Personal Property (TPP) means all goods, chattels, and other articles of value (excluding some vehicular items) capable of manual possession and whose chief value is intrinsic to the article itself. Inventory and household goods are excluded (section 19​2.001(11)(d)​, F.S.)​.​

Anyone owning tangible personal property on January 1 must file a tax return by April 1 each year unless you were notified by our office that the filing requirement has been waived. Every new business owning tangible personal property on January 1 must file an initial tax return.

Ad Valorem Tax Exemption Application and Return For Charitable, Religious, Scientific, Literary Organizations, Hospitals, Nursing Homes, and Homes For Special Services, R. 11/21 (chapter 196, F.S.)

Nonrecurring Intangible Tax. Chapter 199, Florida Statutes (F.S.), imposes nonrecurring intangible tax on obligations to pay money to the extent the obligation is secured by a mortgage or lien on Florida real property. The tax is due even if the mortgage or lien is not recorded or filed in Florida.

WHO MUST FILE A RETURN? Any business owner or self-employed contractor owning tangible personal property on January 1st must file a return each year as required by Florida Statutes 193.052 and 193.062. Property owners that loan, lease or rent tangible property to others must also report such property.
