Get Average Function

The average is simply the sum of the numbers in a given problem, divided by the number of numbers added together. For example, if four number are added together their sum is divided by four to find the average or arithmetic mean.

An average is calculated by adding a group of numbers and dividing the total by the count of those numbers. Should any of the values in the column change, the average update appropriately.

Noun. average, mean, median, norm mean something that represents a middle point. average is the quotient obtained by dividing the sum total of a set of figures by the number of figures. scored an average of 85 on tests mean may be the simple average or it may represent value midway between two extremes.

Average is a number that represents a group of numbers. It is calculated by adding up all the numbers, then dividing the total by the count of numbers. In other words, it is the sum divided by the count.

How to Calculate Average. The average of a set of numbers is simply the sum of the numbers divided by the total number of values in the set. For example, suppose we want the average of 24 , 55 , 17 , 87 and 100 . Simply find the sum of the numbers: 24 + 55 + 17 + 87 + 100 = 283 and divide by 5 to get 56.6 .

The AVERAGE function in Excel calculates the average (arithmetic mean) of a group of numbers. The AVERAGE function ignores logical values, empty cells and cells that contain text.

Click the cell to the right of a row or below a column. Then, on the HOME tab, click the AutoSum down arrow, click Average, verify the formula if what you want, and press Enter. When I double-click inside the cell, I see it is a formula with the AVERAGE function.

(1) In the formula =ROUND(AVERAGE(A1:A7),1), the A1:A7 is the range you want to calculate the average, and 1 means you want to round the average to only one decimal place, and you can change them based on your needs. (2) For rounding up the average, please apply this formula =ROUNDUP(AVERAGE(A1:A7),1) .

Click a cell below, or to the right, of the numbers for which you want to find the average. On the Home tab, in the Editing group, click the arrow next to AutoSum , click Average, and then press Enter.
