TRENTON – New Jersey's statewide minimum wage will increase by $1.13 to $14.13 per hour for most employees, effective today, January 1, 2023. The increase is part of legislation signed by Governor Murphy in February 2019 that gradually raises the minimum wage to $15 per hour by 2024 for most employees.

As of this writing (barring new legislation), it looks like it will be Seattle, where the minimum wage in 2023 jumps to $18.69 for large employers.

On January 1, 2023, New Jersey's statewide minimum wage increased to $14.13 per hour for most workers. This increase is part of legislation signed by Gov. Phil Murphy in February 2019 that will gradually raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour by 2024 for most employees.

There are other exceptions to the $14.13 per hour general minimum wage requirement. For example, employees of seasonal and small employers (fewer than six employees) will have their pay increased from $11.90 to $12.93 an hour.

The minimum wage for tipped employees is $5.26 per hour, effective from January 1, 2023. This is provided that the cash wage paid by the employer and the tips earned together equal the $14.13 per hour minimum wage.
