Checking whether the associated planks have got holes, cracks, or any other defects. Inspecting whether the correct type of scaffolding materials are being used for the work.

Scaffold Safety Inspection Checklist Ensure the foundation and base of the scaffolding is secure and check that the height is within safe dimensions. Inspect the platforms, bracing, tubes and standards for proper installation and capture any defects. Check the load capacity and access points for the scaffolding.

This should include: type of scaffold (tube and fitting or system) maximum bay lengths. maximum lift heights. platform boarding arrangement and the number of boarded lifts that can be used at any one time. safe working load/load class. maximum leg loads. maximum tie spacing both horizontal and vertical and tie duty.

General Rules for All Scaffolds Scaffold is fully planked with no more than 1” gap between planks. Platform is at least 18 inches wide. Guardrails are used if work height is >6 feet. Guardrail system includes: Toprail Midrail Toeboard Posts Scaffold is 14” or less from face of work (if guardrails are removed).

Scaffolds must be inspected following events which could affect the safety of the structure, e.g. alterations, adverse weather or an earthquake. Inspection reports must be kept in a format which can be reproduced in a printable form and is secure from loss or unauthorised interference.

The piston is connected via two strong steel wires to the top of the scaffolding so when pressure is applied to the piston, the weight is applied from the top. The test is performed up to collapse and each arch must withstand at least 8000 kg without collapsing. The more the better.

OSHA requires the general contractor in section 1926.451(f)(3) to have scaffolds and scaffold components inspected for visible defects by a competent person prior to each work shift and after any occurrence which could affect a scaffold's structural integrity.
