AS 2082 refers to wane, want and sapwood susceptible to Lyctid attack. Although the standard makes provision for sapwood that is Lyctus susceptible, in Queensland the Timber Utilization and Marketing Act requires all susceptible sapwood to be treated.

Unseasoned timber is graded from S1 through S7 with S1 being the strongest. Seasoned timber is graded from SD1 through SD8 with SD1 being the strongest. Stress grading is used primarily for structural components as pursuant to Standards Australia 1997a: AS-1720.1-1997 Timber structures—design methods.

Stress grade is a classification of wood used in structural applications and described in the AS1720 SAA-Timber Structures Code. Stress grades are derived from visual- or machine-grading, which specifies the thresholds of pressure applied to trees used for structural applications.

An F grade is a measure of the bending strength of a piece of timber. 'F' stands for force in megapascals (MPa), and is the amount of force a piece of timber can withstand without bending beyond an acceptable limit. A piece graded to F11, for example, will have a safe working stress in bending of 11 MPa.

C16 and C24 are two of the most commonly used grades of timber. The C stands for conifer, the type of tree that the timber comes from (Spruce-Pine-Fir, or SPF for short) while 16 and 24 refer to the strength grade. Both grades are used in a variety of structural applications, including: Rafters.

AS 1684 Residential Timber Framed Construction is a four-part Australian Standard covering design criteria, building practices, tie-downs, bracing and span tables for timber framing members. It is also referred to as the Timber Framing Code.

It's important to note that although MGP material may be substituted for F graded material, as shown below, F graded material must not be used where MGP material has been specified. This is because the MGP grades have design tables for a range of properties, whereas F grades are based on bending strength only.

MGP10, or Machine Graded Pine 10, is an Australian strength grading standard. MGP10 and F7 are very similar types of timber. While MGP10 is machine graded, F7 can be either machine or visually graded. ing to Timberlink Australia, “MGP10 has a higher stiffness grade while F7 has a slightly higher strength grade”.
