GAP adoption and certification offers two pri- mary benefits: (1) economic risk reduction, and (2) improved market access opportunities. Although GAP and third-party certification do not guarantee food safety, they do reduce the risk that a foodborne disease outbreak will orig- inate on the farm.

Malaysian Good Agricultural Practice (myGAP) A certification scheme designed by the Department of Agriculture in 2002 to give recognition to farms that adopt APB with an environmentally friendly concept, safeguarding the welfare and safety of workers to produce quality, safe and edible products.

GMPs regulate the production, for example, of acidified foods (such as pickles), fruit preserves (jams and jellies), baked goods, dressings and condiments, and frozen fruits and vegetables. GAPs are suggested guidance, not regulation, and they apply to the production of fresh produce.
