Most hot tubs will range in depth between 31-40 inches so look out for one with between 35-40 inches for extra depth. Top tip: If you have a tall family, aim for a hot tub with multiple loungers to allow taller family members to use the loungers at the same time - no more arguments over who gets to recline.

The ideal pool water pH level is between 7.4 and 7.6 for a comfortable swim — so you can see, it's a delicate balancing act. Here's why that balance is important: the chlorine you use to keep your pool water clean won't work if the pH level isn't in balance.

The recommended range for a swimming pool's total alkalinity is between 80 and 120 parts per million. Any good pool testing kit will let you determine the range, and it's important to test often.

To chemically balance your swimming pool water, follow these eight steps: Adjust Alkalinity. A pool with low alkalinity has high acidity. ... Adjust pH Levels. ... Balance Calcium Hardness. ... Sanitize. ... Measure Cyanuric Acid (CYA) Levels. ... Measure Dissolved Solids. ... Shock the Pool. ... Test the Water.

A pool that is "balanced" has proper levels of pH, Total Alkalinity, and Calcium Hardness. These are: pH: 7.2-7.8, Total Alkalinity: 80-120 ppm, Calcium Hardness, 180-220 ppm and Cyanuric Acid (Stabilizer): 30-50 ppm. Chlorine levels should remain constant in the 1-3 ppm range.

Parts per million (ppm) is calculated by weight. One ppm is equal to 1 pound of chlorine in 1 million pounds of water. One million pounds of water is approximately 120,000 gallons. Converting to ounces, (1 pound = 16 ounces) 1 ounce of chlorine in 7,500 gallons equals 1 ppm.

Chlorine testers can show if the chlorine levels are above the one- to three-ppm (parts per million) limit. If the levels are above three ppm, the pool water will irritate the skin and eyes, and extreme chlorination can cause poisoning.

A good chlorine level is between 1.0 and 4.0 parts per million (ppm), while the pH should be between 7.2 and 7.8.

Add Baking Soda or Soda Ash Baking soda and soda ash are two solutions you can add to water to raise a pool's pH. You can add either one directly to the pool. For the best results, walk around the edge while you dump the chemicals to distribute them evenly. Add 1.5 pounds of baking soda per 10,000 gallons of water.

The acceptable range for pool water pH is 7.2-7.8, and the ideal pool pH is between 7.4 and 7.6. Water below a pH of 7.2 is too acidic, stinging your eyes, damaging pool liners and corroding equipment. Water above 7.8 is too alkaline and can cause skin irritation, cloudy water, and scale buildup.
