The goals of Collaborative Problem Solving® (CPS) are: Reduction in externalizing and internalizing behaviors. Reduction in use of restrictive interventions (restraint, seclusion) Reduction in caregiver/teacher stress.

Collaborative Problem Solving was developed by Dr. Ross Greene, and is based on the simple premise that, “All kids do well if they can.” This view of children challenges the often held view that children with social and behavioral problems willfully cause problems and fail.

CPS is a way of talking and listening that helps a child/young person build problem solving skills and aids cognitive and social-emotional development. The focus is working together rather than prescribing or imposing solutions.
