Do I need my parents' consent to get emancipated? Yes, to be emancipated by a judge, a minor must give his/her parent(s) notice of the court hearing, and the parent(s) may go to court to contest the emancipation.

Arizona permits teens who are sixteen or seventeen to file a motion to become emancipated. Once a teen is emancipated, their parents are no longer financially responsible for the teen and the teen is legally free from their parents or legal guardian.

You must be 14 years old, or older. You must be willing to live apart from your parents with their consent. You must be managing your own financial affairs. Your income must be from a legal source.

Qualifications to Emancipate: Be at least 16. An Arizona resident. Financially self-sufficient. Acknowledge in writing that the petitioner has read and understands the rights and obligations of emancipation. The minor is not a ward of the court or in the state's custody.
