The goal of Parent-Child Interaction Training is to teach parents of children from 2 to 7 years, how to build a warm and mutually rewarding relationship with their child, to teach their child desirable pro-social behaviors and to decrease their child's inappropriate behaviors.

The Dyadic Parent-Child Interaction Coding System (DPICS) is designed to assess parent-child social interactions, providing a guide for treatment decisions and measure of behavioral change in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy.

PCIT helps by encouraging positive interactions between parents and children and by training parents how to implement consistent and nonviolent discipline techniques when children act out. Children, in turn, respond to these healthier relationships and interactions with more positive behaviors.

The Dyadic Parent-Child Interaction Coding System (DPICS) is a clinician-observational measure of the caregiver's parent-child interaction behaviors.

❖ Statements parents make to themselves, such as “think aloud” comments are not coded. Singing is not coded. An acknowledgement is a brief verbal response to the child's verbalization or behavior that contains no manifest content other that a simple yes or no response to a question.

The Dyadic Parent-Child Interaction Coding System (DPICS) is designed to assess parent-child social interactions, providing a guide for treatment decisions and measure of behavioral change in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy.

It is a micro-coding system that assesses parent–child interaction quality by targeting behaviors associated with effective and ineffective parenting practices (Nelson & Olsen, 2018). DPICS primarily focuses on the frequency of parental verbalizations, such as praise, commands, or negative talk (Eyberg et al., 2014).
