A third-party mandate is a document that tells your bank, building society or other account provider they can accept instructions about your money from a specific named person. It gives that person the authority to run your bank account (but no other financial arrangements) for you.

Giving a third party access to your bank accounts If a Royal Bank of Scotland customer is mentally capable, then a third-party mandate can be put in place to allow another person access to their bank accounts. A third-party mandate cannot be used in circumstances where a customer no longer has mental capacity.
