An ET1 is mostly a simple form, but there's a section called the Particulars of Claim that asks the employee to translate their issue into specific legal claims.

The easiest way to apply for early conciliation is to fill in the early conciliation notification form on the Acas website. The only details you have to give are your and your employer's name and address. You don't need to say what your dispute is about. Make sure you put your employer's correct legal name.

We're Acas, the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service.

You must tell Acas first before making a claim to an employment tribunal about a workplace dispute. When you tell us you want to make a claim to an employment tribunal you're 'the claimant'. The other person in the dispute who will respond to the claim, for example your employer, is 'the respondent'.

Acas will not act as your representative. We cannot take sides. But you can ask someone to represent you in early conciliation if you do not want to represent yourself.

Acas gives employees and employers free, impartial advice on workplace rights, rules and best practice. We also offer training and help to resolve disputes. More about Acas.
