Possible scores for the social anxiety range from 0 to 21, for the generalized anxiety from 0 to 27, and for the total anxiety from 0 to 48. Scores of 8 and more on the social anxiety, 10 or more on the generalized anxiety, and 17 or more on the total anxiety is considered to represent high anxious condition.

Summary: The SCARED, the Child Behavior Checklist for Ages 4-18 (CBCL/4-18), and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children (STAIC) were administered to children, adolescents (n = 295), and their parents attending an outpatient mood and anxiety disorders clinic.

SCORING: A total score of ≥ 25 may indicate the presence of an Anxiety Disorder. Scores higher that 30 are more specific. A score of 7 for items 1, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 19, 22, 24, 27, 30, 34, 38 may indicate Panic Disorder or Significant Somatic Symptoms.
