Sleep Healthy Using the Internet (SHUTi) is an interactive, Internet-based CBT-I intervention designed to improve the sleep of adults with insomnia. Initially tested in a sample of adults with primary insomnia (DSM-IV-TR criteria), SHUTi has also been evaluated in adult cancer survivors with insomnia.

The five key components of CBT-i are sleep consolidation, stimulus control, cognitive restructuring, sleep hygiene, and relaxation techniques.

CBT alone is 50-75% effective for overcoming depression and anxiety after 5 – 15 modules.

Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) can help you control or eliminate negative thoughts and actions that keep you awake and is generally recommended as the first line of treatment for people with insomnia. Typically, CBT-I is equally or more effective than sleep medications.

Is CBT-I Effective? When these techniques are used together as multicomponent CBT-I, as many as 70% to 80% of patients with primary insomnia experience improvements. Benefits include less time to fall asleep, more time spent asleep, and waking up less during sleep.
