The four dimensions are a concept developed by SAMHSA to support life in recovery and guide individuals toward a more healthy, happy, fulfilling life, free of addiction. These dimensions include health, home, purpose, and community.

Three of the most common relapse prevention strategies have included therapy and skill development, medications, and monitoring. This activity describes relapse prevention interventions used in helping individuals recover from addiction.

Relapse prevention (RP) is a cognitive– behavioural approach with the goal of identifying and addressing high-risk situations for relapse and assisting individuals in maintaining desired behavioural changes.

The Gorski-CENAPS Model of Recovery and Relapse Prevention (The CENAPS Model) is a comprehensive system for diagnosing and treating substance use disorders, co-occurring mental disorders, personality disorders, and situational life problems.

Overview of the RP Model In general, the RP model posits that those factors fall into two categories: immediate determi- nants (e.g., high-risk situations, a per- son's coping skills, outcome expectancies, and the abstinence violation effect) and covert antecedents (e.g., lifestyle imbal- ances and urges and cravings).

The purpose of a relapse prevention plan is to help you understand your own personal warning signs. These warning signs are specific to each person and can help you identify when depression may be starting to return so you can get help sooner - before the symptoms get bad.

The goal of treatment is to help individuals recognize the early warning signs of relapse and develop coping skills to prevent relapse early, when the chances of success are greatest.
