Tungsten (also called wolfram) is a chemical element with the symbol W and atomic number 74. Tungsten is a rare metal found naturally on Earth almost exclusively as compounds with other elements. It was identified as a new element in 1781 and first isolated as a metal in 1783.

Tungsten disulfide is an inorganic chemical compound composed of tungsten and sulfur with the chemical formula WS2. This compound is part of the group of materials called the transition metal dichalcogenides.

The 2H phase WS2 crystals produced at HQ Graphene have a typical lateral size of ~0.8-1 cm, are hexagonal shaped and have a metallic appearance. The 2H WS2 is n-type semiconductor, having a typical charge carrier density of ~1014cm-3 at room temperature.

Tungsten disulfide (WS2) belongs to the transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), which are two-dimensional semiconductor nanomaterials.

Tungsten disulfide is an inorganic chemical compound composed of tungsten and sulfur with the chemical formula WS2. This compound is part of the group of materials called the transition metal dichalcogenides. It occurs naturally as the rare mineral tungstenite.

WO2 is Hydrophilite-like structured and crystallizes in the tetragonal P4_2/mnm space group. The structure is three-dimensional. W4+ is bonded to six equivalent O2- atoms to form a mixture of edge and corner-sharing WO6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 51°.

Like other TMDC family members, Tungsten Disulfide (WS2) has a two-dimensional structure. It consists of a layer of hexagonally arranged tungsten atoms positioned between two layers of hexagonally arranged sulfur atoms. Individual layers are held together by Van der Waals forces.

Atoms are defined as “the basic building blocks of matter”. Atom is the basic of all matter. They are very small and consist of even tinier particles. Neutrons, Protons, and Electrons are the basic particles making up the atom.
