The way that the Entry Sensor works is that the only way it can trigger an alarm is if it sends an "opened" signal while your system is armed. If the battery on that sensor was dead, that means it cannot send a signal at all - so false alarms shouldn't be possible.

They guard against one of the most common security intrusion events - piggybacking or tailgating. Door alarms are effective burglary protectors. At the moment a door is opened by a burglary attempt, the sensors can activate a flashlight, a loud siren, and a phone call, or any combination of the above.

Infrared (IR) Security Sensors In a security system, that motion triggers an alarm, turns on lights, or sends an alert. There are, however, two different types of infrared sensors commonly used in security devices ― active and passive infrared sensors.

These detect infrared energy, which humans and animals release as heat. If the motion sensor detects an increase in infrared energy, meaning someone has approached the sensor or walked within its range, it notifies the home security control panel and an alarm sounds.

The system has a faulty sensor and it simply needs to be replaced. The alarm sensors were set up too sensitive at installation. There is a low battery on the alarm panel display.

Motion-sensor batteries typically last for about four or five years, but the newest models have an even longer lifespan of about seven years. As a general rule, you should aim to replace the batteries in your system at the five-year mark if the batteries have not yet been replaced since you installed the system.

There are several causes of false alarms or sensors which fail to operate: Alarm contacts in sensors becoming faulty. Tamper switches becoming faulty. Backup battery problems.
