How long is it Valid for ? Technically speaking, there is no expiration date on certified true copies. However, in reality most financial institutions and government will be reluctant to accept certified true copy older than 3 months.

A certified true copy is the copy of a document that is stamped and signed as a true copy of the original by a person who is allowed to take declarations.

If you need a certified copy of either document type, you must bring the original document and the copy to the notary public. The notary will closely compare the original and copy.

In California, the law only allows a Notary Public to certify copies of his/her journals and Power of Attorney Documents (CA Government Code sections 8205(a)(4), 8205(b)(1), and 8206(e)). It is absolutely illegal for a California Notary to certify a copy of anything other than the aforementioned documents.

This copy of the document is made from an original document, and has a certificate attached to it which says that the person who made the copy has compared the copy to the original, which they have seen. A true copy is simply a copy made from an original document, without the certification attached to it.
