Bronchoscopic imaging techniques, such as autofluorescence imagining (AFI) or narrow band imaging (NBI), facilitate detection of premalignant lesions and early lung cancer.

In flexible bronchoscopy, a health care provider inserts a thin, bendable tube through the mouth or nose into the lungs. A light and a small camera on the bronchoscope allow the provider to look inside the lungs' airways. Bronchoscopy is a procedure that lets doctors look at your lungs and air passages.

The flexible bronchoscope consisting of fiber optic bundles, camera, and working channel, is connected to a light source and image processor, which displays the transmitted images on a monitor. The bronchoscope can be steered to view the airways by the use of a lever at the proximal end of the bronchoscope.

Bronchoscopy is a procedure that lets doctors look at your lungs and air passages. It's usually performed by a doctor who specializes in lung disorders (a pulmonologist). During bronchoscopy, a thin tube (bronchoscope) is passed through your nose or mouth, down your throat and into your lungs.

Bronchoscopy is usually safe, but there is a small risk of: Bleeding in the airways. Pneumonia (infection in the lung) Collapse of part of a lung (pneumothorax)

Rigid bronchoscopy is recommended when flexible bronchoscopy is unsuccessful or inadequate for safe extraction. Moreover, if the FB is wrapped by granulation or scar tissue or is difficult to grasp with flexible forceps because of its size or shape, rigid bronchoscopy should be used for extraction.

The bronchoscope has a very small camera at its tip that displays pictures on a video screen or camera. Bronchoscopy is usually done with a flexible tube (flexible bronchoscopy). However, in a small number of cases, a more rigid tube is required (rigid bronchoscopy).

A bronchoscopy may be done to diagnose and treat lung problems such as: Tumors or bronchial cancer. Airway blockage (obstruction) Narrowed areas in airways (strictures) Inflammation and infections such as tuberculosis (TB), pneumonia, and fungal or parasitic lung infections. Interstitial pulmonary disease.
