Self-Contained Baits or traps, gels or pastes used as crack and crevice treatments, pesticides exempted from regulations by U.S EPA; or antimicrobial pesticides, including sanitizers and disinfectants.

Insecticides, rodenticides, herbicides, sanitizers, and disinfectants are all pesticides. WHAT ARE THE HEALTHY SCHOOLS ACT REQUIREMENTS ? Choose an IPM coordinator who will make sure the requirements of the HSA are met.

Pesticides are unique among toxic materials: to be effective, they must be purposely introduced into the pests' environments. Not only other animals and plants but also humans share this environment with the pests.

HSA-exempt products include: ► Self-contained baits and traps. ► Gels or pastes used for crack-and-crevice treatments. ► Antimicrobials (products that kill microorganisms such as sanitizers and disinfectants). ► “Minimum risk pesticides,” or products exempt from registration by the U.S. EPA.

Self-contained bait stations, indoor gel or paste crack-and-crevice treatments, antimicrobials, and FIFRA 25(b) minimum-risk pesticides are exempt from reporting by schoolsite staff. If a pest management business applies registered pesticides at a schoolsite, they will submit their own pesticide use reports to DPR.

Hence, out of all the options given in the question, eliminating pesticides is not related to integrated pest management, giving option (b) the correct answer.

It is a right-to-know law that provides parents and staff with information about pesticide use taking place at public schools and child care centers (except family day care homes). The law encourages the adoption of effective, lower risk pest management practices, also known as IPM.
