Steps to Apply for an Original MMC Determine the Officer and/or Ratings that you wish to obtain by visiting the NMC's Checklist Page. Obtain a Transportation Worker's Identification Credential. Fill out a CG-719B Application for Merchant Mariner Credential. (IF APPLICABLE) Fill out a CG-719C Conviction Statement.

Any application for a medical certificate that is submitted with a CG-719B (MMC and medical certificate) must be submitted to an REC. Medical certificate applications can be submitted to the NMC via e-mail at: MEDAIP@uscg.mil.

What counts as a “day”? A “day,” as defined by the regulations, is 8 hours of watch-standing or day-working, not to include overtime. Only on vessels of less than 100 gross registered tons (GRT): Credit for a full day will only be given for service of 4 hours or more (See 46 CFR 10.107, definition of “Day”).

For a medical certificate only, the preferred way to submit your CG-719K or CG-719K/E (medical certificate applications) along with any supplemental medical information is via e-mail to MEDAIP@uscg.mil.

Once you submit your application, it takes about 5-7 weeks for our customers to receive your new MMC. This is after submitting a perfect application that is flawless and putting everything in the order the USCG REC and National Maritime Center evaluators prefer.

The preferred method to submit your application and supporting documentation is via e-mail to MEDAIP@uscg.mil. Please include your full name in the subject line and ensure attachments are in PDF format. A CG-719B can ONLY be submitted to a Regional Exam Center.

Where you can work and what you can do will depend on the type of endorsement(s) you hold. The deck department is concerned mainly with the navigation and operation of a ship.
