Claims may be approved for benefits up to a total of $50,000. In the case of extraordinary pecuniary losses resulting in a total and permanent disability, victims may be eligible for an additional $75,000 in benefits. Reimbursement for property damage or theft is not an eligible expense.

Who Qualifies? Any victim who received personal injury or survivors of someone who was killed as a result of a felony or misdemeanor crime punishable under federal or state laws, including DUI and hit and run. Also any elderly or disabled adult who suffered a property loss as a result of a crime.

The Crime Victims' Compensation (CVC) Program helps crime victims and their immediate families with the financial costs of crime. CVC covers crime-related costs such as counseling, medical treatment, funerals, and loss of income not paid by other sources.

Most decisions are made within 30-60 days. All approved payments are mailed ten days from the Board date. How will I know what the Board decides? If the Board approved your claim, you will receive an email or letter indicating that it was approved and what payments have been made on your behalf.

Property loss cannot exceed $500 on any one claim, and a lifetime maximum of $1,000 on all claims. Benefits paid for relocation claims cannot exceed $1,000 on any one claim, and a lifetime maximum of $3,000 for the same relocation claim type.

CalVCB typically issues payment within 30–90 days from receipt of a bill. Several things can cause a delay, including, other available sources of payment, a problem with the eligibility of the claim, or difficulty verifying some of the information.

The crime must occur in Texas to a U.S. resident; or the victim is a Texas resident and the crime occurred in a country that does not offer crime victims' compensation. The crime must be reported to an appropriate law enforcement agency. The victim or claimant must cooperate with the law enforcement investigation.
