A loan that is not made, insured, or guaranteed under the title IV of the HEA of 1965 and is extended expressly, in whole or in part, for postsecondary educational expenses to a consumer regardless of whether the loan is provided through the educational institution that the student attends.

The disclosure statement informs the borrower of the date(s) the loan funds are expected to be disbursed and the anticipated disbursement amounts, and discloses certain loan terms and conditions, such as how the borrower may cancel all or part of the loan.

If the loan is not considered a private education loan and is over $50,000, then the loan is not covered under TILA and Regulation Z, and a creditor is not required to provide any disclosures to the consumer.

All federally owned student loans are eligible for forgiveness. If you have Direct Subsidized Loans, Direct Unsubsidized Loans, Direct PLUS Loans, Direct Consolidation Loans or FFEL Loans owned by the U.S. Department of Education, they're all included in the forgiveness plan.

Credit card debt, student loans, auto loans, mortgages, and payday loans are all examples of consumer debt. These stand in contrast to other debts that are used for investments in running a business or debt incurred through government operations.

The lender must include on the application disclosure a statement that if the loan is approved, the terms of the loan will be available and will not change for 30 days except as a result of adjustments to the interest rate and other changes permitted by law.

The regulation covers topics such as: Annual percentage rates. Credit card disclosures. Periodic statements. Mortgage loan disclosures. Mortgage loan servicing requirements. Mortgage loan appraisal requirements.

Are private education loans eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF)? No. Private education loans aren't eligible for PSLF and can't be consolidated into a Direct Consolidation Loan.
