Lower the lever to start the toasting cycle. Even though the toaster is timed and will pop the bread out on its own, you should never leave it unattended. If the bread starts to burn, you'll have to pop it manually. To pop the toaster manually, hold the top corner of the toaster down while you lift the lever up.

Before the development of the electric toaster, hand sliced bread had to be toasted on a long metal fork or in a metal frame held over a fire, or on a gas stove. Simple utensils for toasting bread over open flames appeared in the early 19th century.

When you start the toaster, electricity runs through this switch and the metals heat up, expanding and eventually pushing apart, breaking the circuit. This releases the spring loaded tray latch, and your toast pops up.

The length of the toasting cycle (and therefore the degree of toasting) is adjustable via a lever, knob, or series of pushbuttons, and when an internal device determines that the toasting cycle is complete, the toaster turns off and the toast pops up out of the slots.

Toasters are generally built so that they stop on their own, to prevent this from happening. A pop up toaster causes the toast to "pop" up when it stops. The slots in the top of it hold the bread.

Toasters are available in four major styles: pop-up toasters, toaster ovens, convection toaster ovens and air fryer toaster ovens. From ease of use to a wide array of cooking options, each one has its benefits. Pop-up toasters are a staple appliance in many kitchens.

You set a dial which indicates how brown you want your toast. The manufacturer carefully calibrated the toaster to release the interior rack once the temperature of the heating coils has been reached for a certain amount of time. So it is, in effect, like setting a timer.

As there is no item in the second slot there is nothing to absorb the heat being produced by the inner heating elements of the empty slot. This feature was incorporated to provide even surface toasting of a single item, both item sides are evenly toasted.
