Start preparing NOW! The midterm will be about 40-50 questions (and you must show your work for full credit). All of the questions will be similar to the attached study guide problems.

From my experience, I think Geometry is slightly easier than Algebra 1. For Geometry, you just need to do a lot of memorization of the formulas, laws, proofs, and justifications. In Algebra 1, you learned quadratics, inequalities, and graphs.

Some schools may offer Algebra I in either 9th/10th grade OR 11th/12th grade, but not both. Nonetheless, it is important that students have access to Algebra I sometime in their high school career.

I highly suggest you take it in 7th grade as you can keep going on the “2-year-ahead path”. I left with an A+ (although it really depends on your school and half of my year was spent in virtual.) Which looks better to colleges: taking regular Algebra 1 in 8th/7th grade, or taking AP/Honors Algebra 1 in 9th grade?

The concepts and skills taught in Algebra 1 – solving for different variables, graphing functions, etc. – can be fairly complex at first. Before taking Algebra 1, there are several prerequisite skills students should have experience with to ensure success.
