All employers registered with the Maine Unemployment Insurance Program must file the Form ME UC-1 form quarterly to report employee wage information and remit unemployment contributions. We recommend employers file their quarterly contribution and wage reports online using Maine's online system, ReEmployME.

2023 SUTA will be collected under Maine's unemployment tax schedule “A”, the lowest allowed, ranging from 0.22% to 5.69%. SUTA rates include a 0.07% competitive-skills scholarship fund assessment and a 0.15% unemployment program administrative fund assessment (up from 0.14%).

Unemployment insurance payments are taxable. When you file for unemployment, you have the option to choose to have taxes taken out at the time benefits are paid. If you opt to have the deductions taken out of your unemployment benefits, the standard deduction used is 10% for Federal Taxes and 5% for State Taxes.

FUTA Exclusions(sec 3306 (c)(7) or (8)) The following services are exempt from federal and state unemployment taxation: Service performed by a church or association of churches. Service performed by an ordained minister. Service performed in a rehabilitation program for the mentally deficient or physically impaired.
