These plates entitle the military veteran to park in any marked handicapped space, including parking meters designated only for disabled persons; additionally, the disabled Hoosier veteran license plate and placard allows for free parking at metered spaces in Indiana.

Disability parking placards, permits, or tags from DC or any state allow you to: Park in any parking space designated for a disabled person. Park for double the posted time in any metered spaces (unless prohibited by DDOT's Red Top Meter Program)

Fee. A temporary disability parking placard costs $5.00. A permanent disability parking placard is free.

(1) An accessible parking space must be at least ninety-six (96) inches wide. (2) An access aisle adjacent to an accessible parking space must be at least sixty (60) inches wide and may not be restricted by a built-up curb ramp, planters, curbs, wheel stops, or any other obstructions.

You may apply for a disability license plate and/or parking placard by completing an Application for Disability License Plate or Parking Placard – State Form 42070. The application may be submitted to any Indiana branch or mailed to the address listed on the application.

You can submit your application for handicap parking by going to your local DMV office, local DMV website, or through the mail. Make sure you plan ahead because it takes about a month for the application to process and for you to receive your license or tag.

They are not entitled to park in the striped section next to disabled parking spaces. In some jurisdictions, disabled permit holders are allowed to park in metered on-street space for free and for extended periods of time.
