Basically, there are two ways to apply for the First Home Owner Grant. You can apply through your lender at the same time you apply for your home loan – this is where your Mortgage Choice broker can help. Or you can apply directly to the State Revenue Office of Tasmania.

If you are buying or building your first home, you may be eligible for a $10,000 grant under the First Home Owner Grant (New Homes) scheme. Your first new home can be a house, townhouse, apartment, unit or similar that is newly built, purchased off the plan or substantially renovated.

The Program provides employers who are not entitled to claim the Payroll Tax Rebate Scheme, a subsidy of up to $5,000 for each apprentice or trainee they employ as a new worker from 1 January 2021. The Apprentice and Trainee Grant for Small Business program has now been fully allocated and closed on 30 April 2022.

Any Guarantee of a home loan is for up to a maximum amount of 15% of the value of the property (as assessed by the Participating Lender). This Guarantee is not a cash payment or a deposit for a home loan. From 1 July 2022 – 30 June 2023, 35,000 FHBG places are available to eligible first home buyers.

The first home buyer duty concession provides a 50% discount on property transfer duty fees for first home buyers of an established home.

Terms and Conditions. To qualify for this 50% discount, you simply need to be a first home buyer who has purchased an established home in Tasmania. This concession currently comes with the condition that your property is valued at $600,000 or under, and is set to end on 30 June 2023.

First Home Owner Grant (New Homes) For a newly built house, townhouse, apartment, unit or similar the purchase price must not exceed $600,000. If purchase vacant land and sign a building contract with a builder, the total combined cost of land price and construction cost must not exceed $750,000.

Who's eligible? Each applicant must be at least 18 years old. At least one applicant must be a permanent resident or Australian citizen. You or your spouse, partner or co-purchaser must not have previously owned a home before 1 July 2000.
