I establish and maintain a safe, healthy, learning environment. As an educator in the Early Childhood field I will establish and maintain a safe environment for the children in my care. I do this by providing an environment for the children that is free from harmful items.

To establish and maintain a safe, healthy, learning environment. Safety is a major part of child care, above all things parents want their children to be safe. I will uphold this honest requirement by realizing accidents do happen, but it is my main goal that at all times safety is my main objective.

Examples of Core or Behavioral Competencies: Teamwork, problem-solving, customer service, communication, result-orientation, decision-making, self-motivation, integrity.

Competency statements, often called skill statements, describe how your skills and experience meet the specific criteria that the employer is looking for in the job that you are applying for, or the potential job you hope to get.

Write a set of statements that describe the competencies you've developed and demonstrated through this experience. Remember that a competency includes skills, knowledge and attributes. Competency statements are best expressed in terms of visible behaviours and often begin with an action verb.

A statement of competency should describe your understanding and knowledge in one of the CDA Competency Goals, as well as demonstrate how you are competent to care for young children by giving specific examples of the things you do in your work with children and families. Write clear goals for each Functional Area.
