There are a number of requirements you must meet to become a resource family. The RFA assessment is supposed to be completed within ninety (90) days.

Prospective Resource Families are required to attend 12 hours of pre-approval and 8 hours of pre-placement RFA training. The RFA training program will provide you with valuable information about the foster care system, the needs of children, and what it means to be a Resource Family.

The applicant(s) must attend an orientation, submit an application packet, followed by pre-approval training, and become certified in CPR and first aid. The RFA process will include a comprehensive psychosocial assessment and a home safety inspection.

Resource Family Approval Program (RFA) RFA is a new family-friendly and child-centered caregiver approval process that combines elements of the current foster parent licensing, relative approval, and approvals for adoption and guardianship processes and replaces those processes.

Resource Family Approval (RFA) is the process an individual, couple or family must go through to provide care for a child or young adult who is in the foster care system.

Resource Family Approval Program (RFA) Unifies approval standards for all caregivers, regardless of the child's case plan. Includes a comprehensive psychosocial assessment, home environment check, and training for all families, including relatives.

Applicant(s) must be at least 18 years of age. Have the ability to provide stability and consistency, love, support, and care to a child/youth in foster care. Be in good physical and mental health to ensure that you can meet the needs of children/youth coming into your home (A physical exam may be required.)

The applicant has been convicted of any crime that raises concerns regarding the child's safety and well-being. The applicant has a child abuse registry record of sustained or founded child abuse or neglect. The applicant or any other person living in the household is listed on the sex offender registry.
