When eligible for a normal service retirement, the pension benefit is equal to 60 percent of your average annual salary. The percentage increases each year after 25 years to a maximum pension of 72 percent of your average annual salary after 33 years of service credit.

The current monthly benefit amount being paid to a volunteer with twenty (20) years of credited service is $150.60 per month. Should a volunteer member elect to participate in Plan B, the pension amount would be deposited into the member's Plan B account for a period of not more than five (5) years.

A paid firefighter with twenty (20) years of credited service is entitled to fifty percent (50%) or two and one-half percent (2.5%) of the firefighter's final average salary. "Final average salary" means the highest thirty (30) consecutive months of the last sixty (60) months of credited service.

The most they can get is 2/3 of their salary. Someone earning £28,500 retiring with 20 years of service would receive a pension of £9,500 a year, but a colleague on the same salary who had spent 30 years as a firefighter would get an annual income of £19,000.
