Founded in 1865, Bowie State is the oldest Historically Black College/University in Maryland and one of the ten oldest in the country. It is also a diverse university whose students, along with faculty and staff, represent many ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

Dean's List. Within any given semester, a degree-seeking student who completes twelve (12) or more semester hours in regular, graded courses (excluding grades of “NG,” “P,” “PS,” “S,” “U,” “W,” “CR,” and “I”) with a semester grade point average of 3.50 or higher will be placed on the Dean's List.

Minimum 2.5 GPA. Students who do not meet all of the prerequisite conditions may be granted conditional admission and may be required to complete prerequisite foundation courses before attempting any of the core courses.

Students will need a total of 46-48 General Education credits and a total of 72-74 Major/Minor course credits to graduate (120 credits total).

Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and have a grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 or better (on a 4.0 scale). Applicants with a cumulative grade point average between 2.5 - 2.75 may be granted conditional admission.

To qualify for the Dean's List, an individual must be a full-time, degree-seeking undergraduate student taking graded courses and have a 3.5 GPA or higher.
