A set is won by the first side to win six games, with a margin of at least two games over the other side (e.g. 6–3 or 7–5). If the set is tied at six games each, a tie-break is usually played to decide the set.

Tennis is a four-point game that must be won by a two-point lead. The name of these four points is love (zero), 15, 30, 40, and game. If the game is tied at 40, it extends until one player wins by a two-point lead. There are six games in a set and two or three games in a match.

Each tennis match is made up of two to three sets. To win a set, you must win at least six games. The games are scored starting at "love" (or zero) and go up to 40, but that's actually just four points. From love, the first point is 15, then 30, then 40, then game point, which wins the game.

You should always write your score first. For example, if you won the match, your scorecard might look like this: 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. That means that you won the first set 6 games to 3; you lost the second set 4 games to 6; and you won the third set 6 games to 2.

The games are scored starting at "love" (or zero) and go up to 40, but that's actually just four points. From love, the first point is 15, then 30, then 40, then game point, which wins the game.

“Tie-break Set” The first player/team to win six games wins that “Set”, provided there is a margin of two games over the opponent(s). If the score reaches six games all, a tie-break game shall be played.

In order to win a set in the tennis scoring system, you have to win 6 games. If both opponents have 5 games though, then the set will go to 7. The final score of a set can be 6-4 or 6-3 but it cannot be 6-5. Once the score in the set reaches 5-5 it can then only be decided either 7-5 or 7-6.

Tennis scores were shown in the middle ages on two clock faces which went from 0 to 60. On each score the pointer moved round a quarter from 0 to 15, 30, 45 and a win on 60. Somehow the forty five got truncated to forty when the clock faces dropped out of use.
