Q: What is required to file a lien? A: The secured party (the lender) must submit the current KY title, a Title Lien Statement, and payment of $22.00. If the title has been misplaced, a duplicate title must be ordered.

TRANSFERRING OWNERSHIP The buyer takes the signed title, proof of Kentucky Insurance, proof of Identification, and money for fees and applicable taxes to their local County Clerk's office for transfer. Older Titles before 2000 may require a completed TC96-182 to complete the transfer process.

If there is a lien on the title, the lienholder must release interest in the vehicle before the car is sold. This can be achieved either by the seller paying off the car or by the lienholder providing a letter of lien release.

How do you get a lien removed from a car title? Once your car loan is completely paid off, obtain a car title lien release from your lender so your state BMV or DMV can put the car title in your name.

Kentucky is NOT a title holding state. Once your vehicle is registered with us, you will receive a KY title with a lien held by your lender reflected on it.

(1) As used in this chapter, a title lien statement is a document to be submitted by the secured party to the county clerk. Upon submission of the title lien statement, the county clerk shall use the information contained therein to note the security interest on the certificate of title, in ance with KRS 186A.

To be considered for a Specific Lien Release the taxpayer must complete and submit the Application for Specific Lien Release to the Department of Revenue. under the authority of the Finance and Administration Cabinet.

Once you pay off your loan, your lienholder will send you an official release of lien letter. You'll take that to your state BMV or DMV (or, in some cases, to your local city/town clerk's office) along with your current title and apply for an updated title.
