Truant: In ance with the Georgia Compulsory Attendance Law 20-2-690.1 a student is considered truant when he or she has accrued five or more unexcused absences. Unexcused absence: It does not meet the established criteria set forth by the school board policy for consideration for excused absences.

Truant: A student between the ages 6– 17 who has accumulated unexcused absences on three consecutive days or has accumulated a total of five or more unexcused absences during the academic year. Only full-day unexcused absences contribute to truancy.

§ 59-1-425 of the South Carolina Code of Laws, all districts are required to establish a calendar with 190 days, which must include a minimum of 180 days of instruction covering at least nine months, at least three days to be used as make-up days, and three scheduled days used for collegial professional development.

Each year, elementary and middle school students may have up to five days can be excused with a parent note.

A child may typically have ten lawful absences from school each year. absences approved by the principal in advance for sports or band trips the student participates in. A child is typically considered a truant if he has three unlawful absences in a row or five unlawful absences in one year.

The California Legislature defined a truant in very precise language. In summary, it states that a student missing more than 30 minutes of instruction without an excuse three times during the school year must be classified as a truant and reported to the proper school authority.

In South Carolina, all children are required to attend a public or private school or kindergarten beginning at age five and continuing until their 17th birthday. If a parent chooses not to send their children to kindergarten, a waiver must be signed. Waivers may be obtained at the local school.
