The strings on a ukulele are numbered 4-3-2-1. If you're holding the ukulele like you're playing it, string 4 is closest to the ceiling, and string 1 is closest to the floor. The string order of 4-3-2-1 corresponds to the string notes G-C-E-A.

To play the most songs, the most important basic chords for the ukulele to learn are C chord, D chord, G chord, and Em chord.

TAB stands for tablature and fundamentally, it's a very simplified way of reading sheet music. Instead of it telling us what notes to play and forcing us to figure out where those notes are. TABs acts as a visual fretboard and tells you not only what notes to play, but where they are on the ukulele fretboard.

Ukulele String Names and Tuning The 1st string is tuned to an A, the 2nd string an E, the 3rd string is C, and the 4th string is a G as shown in the diagram below. The tuning pegs turn clockwise and counterclockwise to tighten or loosen the strings.

For the soprano, concert, and tenor ukulele, the string notes are G C E A, as shown in the diagram below. This is referred to as 'G Tuning' and is the commonest tuning that the majority of ukulele songs were written with.

Ukuleles, or ukes, feature four strings: G-C-E-A. Our favorite acronym to help us remember uke strings is “Greedy Cats Eat Avocados,” but feel free to create your own. Something seasoned musicians might find odd about the uke is that its bottom G string is tuned an octave higher than expected.

U = Ukulele. 4U Soprano. 7U Concert. 10U Tenor. The string gauges are the same, only the length is different.

Music tablature, or tab, is a simplified form of musical notation used for stringed instruments like the ukulele. Most people learn a new piece of music by using tab. Unlike a regular piece of music, tabs show you exactly where to play the notes on the fretboard.
