Allied Joint Publication (AJP)-3.10. 2, Allied Joint Doctrine for Operations Security and Deception provides direction and guidance for the planning, execution and assessment of operations security (OPSEC) and deception across the full scale of military operations to preserve Alliance freedom of action.

AJP-5 is intended primarily as guidance for NATO commanders and staffs. However, the doctrine is instructive to the planning for operations by a coalition of NATO members, partners and non-NATO nations. It also provides a reference for NATO civilian and non-NATO civilian actors.

The NATO “Allied Joint Doctrine for Stability Policing” defines SP as: “Police-related activities intended to reinforce or temporarily replace the indigenous police in order to contribute to the restoration and/or upholding of the public order and security, rule of law, and the protection of human rights”.

AJP-01 provides commanders and their staff with a common framework for understanding the approach to employing the military instrument of power. It does this by explaining the fundamentals and principles, and it is the basis from which all subordinate NATO doctrine is derived.
