Capstone is a mandatory component of the TAP process. During the Capstone process a commander, or a commander's designee, verifies that the transitioning Service member has met the TAP Career Readiness Standards, has a viable Individual Transition Plan (ITP), and is prepared to transition to civilian life.

Once you complete all the requirements with SFL-TAP, you will then take your DD-2648 to your base office. If you have fulfilled all the requirements, your Capstone paperwork will then be generated. This is the final document you need in order to actually fulfill the requirement and leave the Army.

Career Readiness Standards (CRS) are preparation activities with deliverables that Service members must complete at least 90 days prior to their departure from active-duty.

The Individual Transition Plan is a written plan which outlines what a student will need to live, work and play as an adult. It should be written at least four years before someone is leaving school.

Individual Transition Plan (ITP)

The ITP is a section of the IEP that outlines transition goals and services for the student with disability.

Goals are one of the most important topics the ITP will cover, and they should address the following areas: Independent living. Employment (such as supported employment or other community-based work training programs) Post-secondary education.

TRANSITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (TAP) TAP provides separating/retiring service members and their families with the skills, tools and self-confidence necessary to successfully re-enter into the civilian work force, pursue higher education, or technical training.
