The PTSD Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5) assessment is not meant for an acute trauma and is administered to assess PTSD symptoms experienced over the past month. This screening tool is indicated for children ages 7 or above, which spans a wider age range than does the PHQ-9.

The Child and Adolescent Trauma Screen (CATS) questionnaire is a brief, freely accessible screening instrument based on the DSM-5 criteria for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). It is a measure of potentially traumatic events and of posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS).

The Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5) is a 20-item self-report measure of the twenty DSM-5 symptoms of PTSD in adult populations (ages 18+). It is designed for use with people who have experienced traumatic events.

A child with PTSD keeps having scary thoughts and memories of a past event. He or she finds the event terrifying, either physically or emotionally. The symptoms of PTSD may start soon after a stressful event. Or they may not happen for 6 months or longer.

The CAPS-CA-5 is a 30-item clinician-administered PTSD scale based upon DSM-5 criteria for children and adolescents ages 7 and above. It is a modified version of the CAPS-5 that includes age appropriate items and picture response options.

Children with PTSD may relive the trauma over and over again. They may have nightmares or flashbacks. PTSD is diagnosed only if symptoms keep occurring for more than 1 month and are negatively affecting the child's life. Call 911 if your child has suicidal thoughts, a suicide plan, and the means to carry out the plan.

The CPSS-SR-5 is a modified version of Child PTSD Symptom Scale self-report (CPSS-SR) for DSM-5. The 20 PTSD symptom items are rated on a 5-point scale of frequency and severity from 0 (not at all) to 4 (6 or more times a week /severe). The 7 functioning items are rated on yes/no.
