The Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC (/ˈrɒtsiː/ or /ˌɑːr oʊ tiː ˈsiː/)) is a group of college- and university-based officer-training programs for training commissioned officers of the United States Armed Forces.

Have a high school GPA of at least 2.50 or College cumulative GPA of a 2.0 (minimum) Have a high school diploma or equivalent. Meet physical standards (Pass the Army Physical Fitness Test). Have no medical issues preventing you from serving.

Your first two years of an ROTC program count as a college elective, not military service. However, if you accept a scholarship for your final two years of the program, you also sign up for a military commitment.

Cadets in ROTC are not in the Army, they are in a commissioning program to develop their leadership skills to become officers in the United States Army.

ROTC does not interfere with regular college programs. It is not a major, but a series of elective courses. ROTC cadets may participate in extracurricular activities, sports, and community service organizations. Some take second academic majors, academic minors, and participate in overseas exchange programs.

Depending on the student's major, Basic and Advanced ROTC classes count as a portion of elective credit. (Students may apply a maximum of 4 credit hours in Basic ROTC courses and six credit hours in Advanced ROTC courses toward meeting the elective requirements for any degree at the discretion of the school.)

Contracted students are those who have entered a contract and committed to complete the Basic and Advanced Courses of ROTC. Contracted students then enter the Army as an officer upon graduation, either on Active or Reserve duty.

Students who enroll in ROTC don't join the Army. They take an ROTC class for which they receive credit. It's considered a college elective.
