A finalized report can take 4-6 weeks to complete. The non- referral necropsy charge covers the necropsy procedure as well as histology and other routine tests at the pathologist's discretion.

The total cost for a complete necropsy examination (pet autopsy) performed with the intent to determine the cause of death is typically between $1500-$3000 depending on the size of the pet, circumstances surrounding its death, the need for courier service and request for cremation.

The Department of Animal Science offers minors in Animal Science, Dairy Management, Food Science and Therapeutic Horsemanship Education. These are described in the Minors section of this Catalog.

Where is my animal allowed on campus? A: Visitors may bring their emotional support animal only in public areas where pets are permitted. Pets generally are not permitted in or on any controlled space on University property nor in any non-public spaces. Pets are permitted in outdoor areas open to the general public.

What types of animals are used? Many different species are used around the world, but the most common include mice, fish, rats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, farm animals, birds, cats, dogs, mini-pigs, and non-human primates (monkeys, and in some countries, chimpanzees).

Forensic necropsies take several hours to complete. Not every animal death requires a forensic necropsy. Many times, a regular necropsy is sufficient to diagnose the cause of death in animals.
