Overview of the Nova Scotia Building Code Regulations. This guide provides an overview of the Nova Scotia Building Code Regulations and outlines the rules you need to follow if you're constructing a new building or making changes to an existing building.

The Nova Scotia Building Code Training & Certification Board (TCB) was created in 2008 to establish and maintain education and training standards for Qualified Building Officials in the province. The TCB develops these standards to recognize national standards, certifications, and accreditation models.

Minimum building code in Nova Scotia requires an R-10 value under slabs. However, for maximum savings many building associations recommend going with R-20, especially in cases where in-floor heating is to be installed.

A permit is required if you are intending to construct, add to, alter, demolish, replace or relocate any building or part of a building or structure and/or; change or alter the use of land, buildings or structures.

A Building Permit is required to construct an accessory building (ie: shed or garage) that is larger than 215 square feet.

Step One: Complete the ICA home inspection training course. We will provide you with all the training and certification you need to successfully perform home inspections and commercial inspections in Nova Scotia. Step Two: Start your own home inspection business or go to work for an existing home inspection company!
