During a cash deposit, like during a withdrawal, the ATM connects to the financial institution's network. It receives the cash, scanning each bill for an accurate count of the deposit amount. Once it has counted the bills, the ATM creates a transaction record of the deposit.

When a withdrawal is selected the transaction is processed and, if approved, your bank debits your account for the amount. This transaction is sent back through the ATM networks and processor to the ATM. The mainboard then initiates the dispensing of the cash.

Bank ATM fees can vary from as low as $2.50 per transaction to as high as $5 or more, depending on whether the ATM you use is out-of-network or even international.

First, your customer withdraws cash from your ATM machine. Next, the cash is withdrawn from the ATM customer's account and ACH is deposited into your bank account. Finally, you withdraw the cash from your bank account and load the cash into your ATM machine. The cash cycle then begins all over again.

Finally, the host processor uses an automated clearing house (ACH) to transfer funds from the cardholder's account into the account of whatever entity owns the ATM, whether it be another bank or a business.
