What is the difference between stars and galaxies?

What is the difference between galaxies and stars? Stars = huge masses of icandescent gases, have their own light, and these bright stars have different colors, ages, temperatures and brightness. Galaxies are groupings of stars, which includes stars; stars are a type of celestial body (or astro).

At the center of the Solar System is the Sun, which is a star. A galaxy is made of billions of stars as well as their solar systems. Like solar systems, galaxies are also held together by gravity. The galaxy that contains the Earth and its solar system is called the Milky Way.

Our planetary system is called “the solar system” because we use the word “solar” to describe things related to our star, after the Latin word for Sun, "solis." Our planetary system is located in an outer spiral arm of the Milky Way galaxy.

From largest to smallest they are: Universe, galaxy, solar system, star, planet, moon and asteroid.

The universe is all of the galaxies – billions of them! NASA's telescopes allow us to study galaxies beyond our own in exquisite detail, and to explore the most distant reaches of the observable universe.

Using the Milky Way as our model, we can multiply the number of stars in a typical galaxy (100 billion) by the number of galaxies in the universe (2 trillion).

A galaxy is a huge collection of gas, dust, and billions of stars and their solar systems, all held together by gravity. Our sun is just one of at least 200 billion stars in the Milky Way galaxy.
